Nintendo Wii Buyer's Guide

A Wii bundle with games often costs less than a Wii console with no free games, which makes a price comparison difficult when retailers only want to sell a Wii with 1 or 2 added games. From time to time the best deal might just be a standard Wii package. Depending on stock, some retailers still have the old model Nintendo Wii; usually priced much cheaper.

Inside the original Wii console (2006) model was: a White console, 1x Nunchuk, 1x Remote controller and Wii sports game.

Wii Hardware Updates

Over the years Nintendo has update the Wii releasing new bundles. The only significant change to the hardware in the packs was with the advent of Wii Motion Plus. This was provided as an adapter to plug in to the base of a Wii remote, and given free in the bundle, until this year when it was integrated into the Wii remote and renamed Wii Remote Plus. *Shops still have stock of Wii packages in both models, so be sure to look for the Remote Plus.

Wii Bundle Updates

Several Wii packages have been released, including limited edition console bundles, which soon sold out and have not all been remanufactured; but some have...

The main differences are the games bundled in free inside. The newest bundle is blue, and includes a free copy of Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olymic Games inside.

How to tell the difference between Wii console models?

Read carefully on the box for: "Sports Resort and Motion Plus", or a "Wii Sports" logo on the Wii package. The Wii Remote and Motion Plus is circled and is shown fitted with a silicon non-slip jacket on a 2009 Wii.

2010 Wii bundles include 2 games. The third gen Wii console (Dec 2010), and Limited Edition Wii consoles and late 2011 models have been updated by having this built-inside the Remote, which now goes by the new name of Remote Plus. The tiny wording on the packs shows this.

New 2011 Wii bundles: The Mario Kart Wii pack (White and Black version) comes with only one game inside - Wii Mario Kart. A limited edition black Wii bundle with Donkey Kong pre-installed and Mario Kart Wii + Wii Sports game inside was released to celebrate 25 years of Mario. This bundle was slightly dearer as the bundle contained more games.

1 This bundle was so popular another edition has been released for Christmas 2011 without Donkey Kong.

Wish i knew this before i bought a Wii. We haven't been able to find "Remote Plus" in shops, and i've had to buy remotes and adapaters costing more basically the newer ones are much better having the plus built in.
